“I Will Not Be Hidden” | Ozark National Forest
One of my favorite places on Earth is the Ozark National Forest in NW Arkansas. I have spent hours upon hours driving those forest roads and trails. Camping in the forest is the surest way I know to clear my mind.
When I arrived in the woods last March, I decided I wanted to take some shots at a recreation area high up in the Boston Mountains of the forest. Old stonework picnic structures at sunset would be lovely. I made those images and drove to a nearby spot to set up camp.
I had bought a new tent to use for this trip, and, as soon as I got finished making dinner, rain came in. No worries. I was warm and dry un my tent. I was set.
I woke the next morning to condensation all throughout the inside of the tent. I was absolutely positive the tent had leaked, and I was furious. I had spent good money on this thing. I threw on my clothes and stomped outside and began laughing.
It wasn’t rain that had leaked in. I was fully surrounded by dense fog.
You better believe I hopped in the car and took off down the road to find some good shots. I had pulled over to shoot one scene that looked interesting and when I turned around I saw this beautiful tree showing herself off. The way she stood in the relative open said to me that I could try to ignore her if I wanted, but it wouldn’t work.
Even despite the fog, she would be noticed. Yes, she would.
