About Landon Spencer

You and I are probably a lot alike. You can see beauty other people ignore.

When you got to hold that first polaroid, 35mm film camera, bulky digital camera, or digicam and snapped your first photo you probably thought: “This is amazing!” And then you kept showing people your pictures until they either told you to stop or started avoiding you.

Photography is a natural habit for me. I’m an introvert and an observer by nature. One of my favorite things to do is go to dinner with my wife and listen to her talk to our friends. It is a joy to be present with interesting things happen.

But I also have things I want to communicate.

My day job lets me do that. I get to think and speak and teach about important things all the time, but no one is ever just one thing. I’ve spent countless nights with a glass of whiskey in my hand dreaming about wandering a forest, meadow, or city with my camera.

I’m a Midwesterner by birth, and I’ve always had to contend with people thinking where I came from isn’t worth a second thought. I love a big, beautiful destination as much as the next person (I’ve been to many and plan to go back!), but I also can see the beauty of the places where I live. And, so, I roam the highways and byways of the great Midwest and I take pictures that show my home the way I see it: Open, Free, Proud, Beautiful.

As you take a look at my images, I hope you see what I saw: There is always beauty of you look close enough.
